1) Basilica di San Nicola
Welcome to Bari’s most famous landmark! The Basilica of San Nicola is a masterpiece of Apulian Romanesque architecture and an important pilgrimage site. Dedicated to Saint Nicholas—the real-life inspiration behind Santa Claus!—this majestic church is full of history, legends, and beautiful details.
2) Bari Vecchia (Old Town)
Time to dive into the authentic heart of Bari! Bari Vecchia is a charming maze of tiny alleys, arches, courtyards, and lively corners where traditions are still alive. Here you’ll find grandmas chatting outside their homes, laundry waving in the sun, and plenty of local character. It’s the perfect place to get lost on purpose.
3) Cattedrale di San Sabino
Now we arrive at Bari’s cathedral, a beautiful Romanesque church dedicated to Saint Sabinus. Its elegant white façade and peaceful interior make it one of the city’s architectural gems. Inside, you’ll find a fascinating mix of ancient remains, stunning crypts, and a calm atmosphere that feels like a step back in time.
4) Castello Normanno-Svevo
This impressive fortress dominates the entrance to Bari Vecchia! Built in the 12th century over old Byzantine structures, the castle is linked to Norman King Roger II and later expanded by Frederick II. Today it’s home to exhibitions and is one of Bari’s top historic attractions.
5) Strada delle Orecchiette
Welcome to the most iconic street in Bari! Officially called Via dell’Arco Basso, this alley is world-famous thanks to the “orecchiette ladies.” Every day, local women sit at wooden tables crafting fresh orecchiette by hand—a beautiful tradition that’s pure Apulian culture. It’s impossible not to smile watching them work their magic.
6) Piazza Mercantile
A lively square full of history! Piazza Mercantile has been Bari’s social and commercial center since medieval times. Cafés, historic buildings, and local vibes make it the perfect stop to feel the energy of the old city and enjoy a quick break.
7) Fortino di Sant’Antonio
Overlooking the sea and the old port, the Fortino di Sant’Antonio was once part of Bari’s defensive walls. Today it’s a fantastic panoramic spot where you can enjoy the view, breathe the sea breeze, and take great photos. A peaceful and scenic stop near the waterfront.
8) Lungomare di Bari
Let’s enjoy the sea! Bari’s waterfront promenade is one of the most beautiful in Italy—a long, panoramic walk with palm trees, historic lampposts, and endless blue views. Perfect for a relaxing stroll, a sunset moment, or simply taking in that unmistakable southern atmosphere.
9) Pinacoteca Metropolitana di Bari
Our final stop takes us to Bari’s main art museum. The Pinacoteca showcases an impressive collection of Apulian and Italian artworks, including medieval pieces, Renaissance paintings, and 19th-century masterpieces. It’s an excellent place to explore the artistic side of the city and round off your Bari itinerary.
