1) Piazza Walther
Often called “Bolzano’s living room,” Piazza Walther is the perfect place to start exploring the city. Throughout the year it hosts major events — including the famous Christmas Market, the Spring Flower Market and the City Festival. A lively and scenic square loved by locals and visitors alike!
2) Cathedral of the Assumption (Duomo Maria Assunta)
A beautiful fusion of Italian and Germanic culture! The cathedral combines Romanesque and Gothic elements and is known for its stunning “Wine Door,” a Gothic portal decorated with scenes of medieval winemakers. One of the most elegant corners of Tyrol!
3) Dominican Church (Chiesa dei Domenicani)
Just a few steps from the Duomo, don’t be fooled by the simple exterior — inside you’ll find extraordinary 14th-century frescoes. Despite centuries of damage and looting, the surviving paintings are among Bolzano’s greatest artistic treasures.
4) Via della Mostra
One of the city’s most elegant streets! Lined with Renaissance palaces and buildings reflecting both Italian and Germanic influences, this street has been an important centre of commerce and noble residences since medieval times. A great place for a stroll!
5) Piazza del Grano
Located between Piazza Walther and the Portici, this historic square once formed part of the bishop’s district. Its buildings still show traces of their medieval origins — a small but atmospheric stop in the heart of Bolzano.
6) Via dei Portici
The most iconic street in Bolzano! Known as “Laubengasse,” this is the original nucleus of the city, founded by the Prince-Bishop of Trento in the 12th century. Arcades, shops, colours and medieval charm make it one of the liveliest streets in South Tyrol.
7) Mercantile Museum (Museo Mercantile)
Housed in an elegant 18th-century building, the museum once served as the commercial court during Bolzano’s international fairs. Here merchants from across Europe settled disputes — and now you can explore the documents, artworks and stories behind centuries of trade.

8) Piazza delle Erbe
Bolzano’s historic market square! Documented since 1295, it still hosts a daily market (except Saturday afternoon, Sunday and holidays). Fresh fruits, flowers, local produce and a lively atmosphere — a perfect place to feel the rhythm of the city.
9) South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology
Home to Ötzi the Iceman — the oldest naturally preserved mummy ever discovered! The museum also offers fascinating exhibitions on Alpine prehistory and archaeology. A must-visit for history lovers.

10) Castel Mareccio (Schloss Maretsch)
A scenic castle right in the historic centre, surrounded by vineyards and with the Dolomites as a backdrop — yes, it really is as beautiful as it sounds. Today it often hosts exhibitions and events, so check opening times before visiting.

11) Franciscan Church (Chiesa dei Francescani)
A rare and elegant example of original Gothic architecture. Inside you’ll find the splendid wooden altarpiece by Hans Klocker, depicting the Nativity — one of Bolzano’s most precious artistic masterpieces.

One of the oldest and most picturesque streets in Bolzano! Famous for its medieval architecture and timeless atmosphere, it’s a great place to wander, take photos and imagine what life looked like here centuries ago.
