1) Scrovegni Chapel
A small church hiding a monumental treasure! The Scrovegni Chapel stands on the remains of the ancient Roman amphitheatre, and even its façade sits on top of Roman foundations still visible today. Inside, you’ll find the breathtaking frescoes by Giotto himself—one of the greatest masterpieces of Western art. Ticket: €16 (not included).
2) Church of the Eremitani – World Heritage Site
Built between 1260 and 1306, this church became one of Padua’s most important religious buildings. It once hosted works by top artists like Mantegna and Guariento. Even after suffering damage during WWII, it remains a precious symbol of Padua’s medieval heritage.
3) Pedrocchi Café
Time for a delicious break! Pedrocchi Café is a true institution in Padua—open since 1831 and famously known as the “café without doors.” Don’t miss their historic drink, the Caffè Pedrocchi: espresso, cocoa, milk, and mint syrup. A weird combination? Maybe. A tasty experience? Definitely!
4) Piazza dei Signori
One of Padua’s many beautiful squares! Named after the former “Palazzo della Signoria,” home of the Carraresi lords from 1318 to 1405, this elegant piazza is full of charm and offers the perfect setting to enjoy the city’s atmosphere.
5) Cathedral Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta
This cathedral took shape thanks to the architect Andrea da Valle, who followed a design by none other than Michelangelo (yes, the Michelangelo). The result? A majestic and harmonious church that blends Renaissance style with Padua’s unique character.
6) Piazza delle Erbe
For centuries, this was Padua’s commercial heart. Markets, trades, celebrations—you name it, it happened here! Unlike Piazza dei Signori, which hosted official ceremonies, Piazza delle Erbe was the lively, everyday hub of the city. The imposing Palazzo della Ragione towers above the square.
7) Palazzo Bo
Welcome to the historic home of the University of Padua, founded in 1222 by students fleeing Bologna for more academic freedom. Over the centuries, it became one of the most prestigious universities in Italy. Inside Palazzo Bo, you’ll feel the energy of centuries of students, scholars, and great thinkers.
8) Basilica of Saint Anthony (Basilica del Santo)
One of the most visited sanctuaries in the world and the pride of Padua! This magnificent basilica houses the remains of Saint Anthony, the city’s beloved patron saint. Its domes and chapels are full of artworks, devotion, and centuries of history.
9) Prato della Valle
A huge favorite among locals! With 88,620 m² of space, Prato della Valle is the second-largest square in Europe (right after Moscow’s Red Square). Surrounded by statues and crossed by a circular canal, it’s one of the most scenic places in the city—perfect for photos, strolling, or relaxing on the grass.
