1) Duomo di Cefalù
The Cathedral of Cefalù, officially dedicated to the Transfiguration, is one of the finest examples of Arab-Norman architecture in Sicily and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its imposing façade, massive towers and extraordinary mosaics make it an absolute must-see in the city.
2) Mura Megalitiche
Because of its strategic location on the sea, Cefalù was exposed to pirate raids for centuries. To defend the town, a powerful megalithic wall was built as early as the 5th century BC. This ancient defensive structure once embraced the entire Rocca — and is still one of the most fascinating sights in Cefalù.
3) Bastione di Capo Marchiafava
Built around the 17th century, this bastion marks the northern end of Cefalù’s seafront fortifications. Its shape resembles the bow of a ship and from its panoramic terrace you can admire an unforgettable view of the entire gulf. A perfect spot for photos… and for catching your breath!
4) Porta Pescara
In the past, access to Cefalù was possible only through four gates. Of these, only one has survived: Porta Pescara, also called “Porta del Viceré.” This beautifully preserved gate opens directly onto the sea and is one of the most atmospheric corners of the historic centre.
5) Lavatoio Medievale
This ancient washhouse, fed by the waters of the Cefalino River, is a fascinating example of medieval daily life. Its stone basins, steps and vaulted spaces create a unique and evocative atmosphere. A small gem that tells a big story!
6) Museo Mandralisca
As we walk through the centre, we pass by the Mandralisca Museum — home to archaeological finds, artworks and the famous Portrait of an Unknown Seafarer by Antonello da Messina.
7) Rocca di Cefalù
Towering over the city, the Rocca is an ancient natural fortress dotted with archaeological remains and scenic viewpoints. If you have extra time and energy, it’s one of the most rewarding hikes in Cefalù.
