1) Saint Peter’s Church
We start our Modena walking tour with one of the city’s most fascinating historic sites. Founded in 983 AD by Bishop Giovanni da Canossa, this ancient abbey was built on an earlier religious settlement and soon became an important center for culture, spirituality and knowledge. For centuries, Benedictine monks lived here, dedicating their lives to prayer, study and manual work — a perfect introduction to Modena’s deep-rooted traditions.
2) Mercato Albinelli
Welcome to the beating heart of Modena’s food culture! Created in the early 20th century, this covered market is famous for authentic products, friendly vendors and a true “local vibe.” Here you’ll find everything that makes Modenese cuisine legendary: cheeses, fresh pasta, cured meats, balsamic vinegar and more. A colourful place full of aromas, smiles and often cultural events.

Here we are — Modena’s main square and a treasure chest of history!
