Let’s start our Parma walking tour from the true heart of the city! Piazza Garibaldi has always been the civic center of Parma — lively, elegant and full of history. While Piazza Duomo represented the religious soul of the city, this square was the political one. Today it remains a vibrant meeting point for locals, surrounded by beautiful historic buildings.
2) Basilica di Santa Maria della Steccata
This stunning Renaissance church was the first in Parma to adopt a central plan. Inside you’ll find works by great local artists, including the celebrated Parmigianino. Elegant, harmonious and full of artistic treasures, it’s one of the city’s most beloved landmarks.
3) Teatro Regio
Welcome to the temple of Italian opera! The Teatro Regio is one of Italy’s most prestigious theaters, known for its iconic “Parma yellow” façade and refined neoclassical interiors. A must-see for music lovers and one of the city’s most elegant gems.
4) Baptistery of Parma
One of the finest examples of transition between Romanesque and early Gothic architecture in Italy. With its distinctive octagonal shape and pink marble façade, the Baptistery is one of Parma’s most iconic monuments — and an essential stop in your tour of the city.

A fascinating place dedicated to Parma’s religious art and cultural heritage. Here you’ll find paintings, sculptures, ancient vestments and archaeological finds, all displayed inside elegant historical rooms. A great stop to understand the artistic roots of the city.

A true medieval masterpiece! Built starting in 1106, the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta is famous for its Romanesque architecture and breathtaking interior, which later gained Renaissance and Gothic details. The dome frescoed by Correggio is one of the absolute masterpieces of Italian art.
7) Camera di San Paolo & Cella di Santa Caterina
A hidden gem! Inside the former monastery of San Paolo, you’ll find the private rooms of abbess Giovanna da Piacenza. One of Italy’s greatest Renaissance fresco cycles awaits you here — refined, symbolic and incredibly charming. The Cella di Santa Caterina is equally beautiful, decorated with scenes from the life of the saint.
8) Palazzo della Pilotta
A monumental complex that once served the powerful Farnese court. Palazzo della Pilotta brings together centuries of aristocratic history, culture and art. Its vast courtyards, grand architecture and rich museum spaces make it a true symbol of Parma’s noble past.
