1) Piazza Cavour
One of the main squares in Rimini and a lively hub of local social and cultural life. Surrounded by historic buildings and right in the heart of the old town, it’s the perfect place to start exploring the city!
2) Castel Sismondo
This impressive fortress sits right in the city center and is one of Rimini’s most iconic landmarks. Built starting in 1437 by Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta, one of Rimini’s most famous lords, it holds centuries of stories and political intrigue.
3) Tiberius Bridge (Ponte di Tiberio)
One of the best-preserved Roman bridges in Italy! Construction began under Emperor Augustus in 14 AD and was completed in 21 AD by Emperor Tiberius. Made of Istrian stone and spanning the Marecchia River with five elegant arches, it’s a true masterpiece of Roman engineering.
4) Borgo San Giuliano
One of my absolute favourite areas! Originally a fishermen’s district dating back to around the year 1000, today its narrow alleys, colourful houses and beautiful murals make it one of the most charming and photogenic corners of Rimini.
5) Piazza Luigi Ferrari
As we walk toward the center, we reach this lively square and its gardens — another popular gathering point for locals and a great place to enjoy the city’s everyday atmosphere.
6) Surgeon’s House (Domus del Chirurgo)
During excavations in the late 1980s, a major archaeological site was uncovered right beneath Piazza Ferrari. Among the discoveries was the “Surgeon’s Domus,” named after its last owner, a physician trained in Greek medicine. Ticket: €7 (includes the museum).
7) City Museum “Luigi Tonini” (Museo della Città)
This museum preserves Rimini’s past through artifacts from Roman times to the Middle Ages and beyond. A fascinating journey into the city’s cultural identity. Ticket: €7 (includes the Surgeon’s Domus).
8) Malatesta Temple (Tempio Malatestiano)
Rimini’s cathedral! Originally a Gothic Franciscan church, it was transformed in the 15th century by Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta, who commissioned architect Leon Battista Alberti to redesign it. The result is a magnificent blend of classical harmony and Renaissance elegance.
9) Rimini Covered Market (Mercato Coperto)
I love markets — and this one is a must-see! Spread over two floors, it offers fresh fruits, vegetables, local products, small bars and even a supermarket. A great place to experience Rimini’s daily life.
10) Arch of Augustus (Arco d’Augusto)
Built in 27 BC in honour of Caesar Octavian Augustus, this is one of the oldest surviving Roman arches in the world. It marks the end of the ancient Via Flaminia, the road that connected Rome to Rimini.
11) Piazza Tre Martiri
Today’s Piazza Tre Martiri stands where the Roman Forum of Ariminum once was — the ancient city’s political and commercial heart. A place rich in history and stories that shaped Rimini across the centuries.
